Things I would say to my 15 year old self

  1. Do not be obsessed about getting approval or certification of your worth from people, this will screw your happiness big time. Remember, you were not born to please people but to fully utilize your potential and add meaning to your life and to those with whom you connect. Those who excel in life know what to take and what to ignore
  2. You will be looked down upon by people no matter what status you achieve. Do not rely on appreciations for the sake of getting emotional gratification. Let your own passion and not external appreciation be be a driving force behind doing the great work that you do
  3. Your looks come secondary but your capabilities are the real drivers of your success, do not get stuck with the way you look and how will the world perceive you. Remember, if someones considers your physical look as the start of all and end of all then their opinions about you do not matter at all
  4. Do not be upset when you see your near and dear ones mistreating you or failing to understand and support you. At times God chooses your closest people as tools to hit you where it hurts, so that you emerge as an emotionally strong individual and are ready to face life’s greatest challenges
  5. Do not be afraid of the world around you. Your talent, capabilities, competencies and potential is yours alone and your job is to put them to best use. Remember, fear will enslave you and will never allow you to live the life that you deserve
  6. Learn what excites you, be it a Guitar, a new language or simply anything that makes you feel good, do not always look at how something can help you bag that next promotion or that better job or any sort of career enhancement opportunity. Remember, there is big chunk of life that is waiting for you beyond your job or business
  7. Lastly, remember that all of life is simply a grand drama. This drama is simply about running as fast as possible for the sake of winning the race that you are a part of. The moment you win, you will be told to prepare for the next race. It shall never end. So, just relax and take things easy, there is no need for you to get too serious in life. Live every moment to its fullest and spread some positive vibes around because the world is in dire need of it.

With Best Wishes,

Rafaat Khan
